China achieves 90% of road reconstruction projects target

According to a government official, China has reconstructed 118,000 km of rural roads in the first three quarters of 2023, achieving more than 90% of the annual target, says Xinhua News Agency.

During a meeting held recently in Jinggangshan, a city in east China’s Jiangxi Province, Vice Minister of Transport Wang Gang stated that investment in rural roads reached 358.7 billion yuan (approximately US$50 billion) in the same period, which marks a 5.1% increase compared to the previous year.

Minister Wang stated that the Ministry of Transport has been promoting the high-quality development of rural roads to support the country’s rural revitalisation strategy, as well as speed up the modernisation of agriculture and rural areas.

During the first three quarters, 5,409 dangerous bridges on rural roads were renovated, and 15,000 speed bumps were installed at 7,679 level crossings across the country.
