CE Barometer for April: Business levels reported to be worse than a year ago

The CE Barometer survey for April was undertaken during the first three weeks of May.

Construction professionals across Europe participated in this month’s CE Barometer survey.

Regarding business levels in May, most respondents (55.0%) reported no change compared to April, while 22.5% reported an increase.

Responses predict an improvement in business levels within the next year. This is an increase in responses from last month where only 36.4% saw business levels improving this time next year. This is a steady increase since the drop in January (29.4%).

This month, over half of respondents, said that business levels are worse than they were a year ago. Last month, 52.3% of respondents recorded better business levels compared to a year ago whilst May has reportedly been worse by 50% of respondents.

Looking ahead 12 months, results demonstrate that those who believe that business will be better (47.5%) are higher than those who think business will be worse (17.5%). Albeit a reduction in responses that business is better than last year, it is clear that there is optimism for this time next year.

The May report shows that business has not been as fruitful as last year but the future does still remain positive as a number of bottlenecks in the industry continue to ease up.
