Boels Rental has added a mobile charging station for electric machines to its ECO rental range of more environmentally friendly products.

Available in Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Germany, the Load Balancer 32A 9 x 230V charging station connects to a mains electric supply and will charge up to nine battery powered machines at the same time.

The charger is fitted with nine 10 m long power cables each supplying 230 V.

According Boels, the rising use of electric machines onsite means that they are “often plugged into any and all available outlets”, which can result in exceptionally high peak loads that can blow the fuses of one or more circuit groups.

With construction machines left overnight to charge, this can lead to site workers returning to uncharged or half-charged units in the morning.

The new Load Balancer is said to solve this by “ensuring that all connected electrical machines are charged in a controlled manner by automatically distributing the required power”.

The unit features an intelligent energy supply control system that uses remote monitoring to maintain optimum power levels.

“If the load on one or more power points becomes too high, the Load Balancer temporarily switches off these reels,” said Boels, adding that LED indicators on the station also serve to show users which cables are currently energised.

The remote monitoring technology also provides real-time performance and energy consumption data.

Harm Munsters, Manager Fleet & Maintenance Netherlands at Boels Rental, said, “With the help of data we can keep track of everything remotely. For example, is there an energy surplus or is a battery pack not running at full strength?

“Such insights improve follow-up actions, such as sending a technician or preventing unnecessary long loading of a particular machine.”
