AI camera tech for material processing

The Eirich Group, in partnership with Germany-based Prosio Engineering, has developed a new camera-based system called the Qualimaster VC1 for the optical quality assessment of granules.

Self-learning production systems and machinery are opening up innovative development opportunities for the German mechanical engineering sector, says the Eirich Group (Photo: Eirich Group)

The new measuring system combines camera technology with artificial intelligence-based analysis software to measure the key variables of granular materials, such as particle size, distribution, grain shape and grain surface.

The data obtained opens up possibilities in the control of complex production systems and for the optimisation of product quality and line efficiency, says the company, which specialises in material preparation for a number of industries, including construction.

Stephan Eirich, CEO of the Eirich Group, says, “Digitalisation offers huge potential for boosting the efficiency of many industrial systems and thereby protecting our environment and resources.

“We are convinced that mechanical and plant engineering must also make an important contribution on the road to the Smart Factory, or Industry 4.0.”
